Microfauna in a reef aquarium

- Categories :

Daphbio (formerly Daphniebio) has forged a solid reputation in microfauna feeding, stimulation and production over the last ten years.

We currently offer a range of three products plus 250 ml of live microfauna comprising pelagic and benthic copepods, isopods, microscopic edible worms in the form of resting eggs, juveniles and adults, as well as its own specific feed, namely Microfauna Booster.

HOW TO REINTRODUCE MICROFAUNA IN A SALTWATER REEF AQUARIUM

Bring the bottle of microfauna up to room temperature. Pour the entire bottle into the aquarium, refugium or settling tank, all at once, preferably in the evening when your fish are asleep. Turn off the filter system and the skimmer.

It takes just three minutes for the microfauna to find its place in your aquarium. It can adapt to all substrates: living stone, sand, zeolite, etc. It does however require highly specific food if it is not to disappear from a reef aquarium.

FEEDING YOUR MICROFAUNA

Microfauna Booster is the perfect food for your microfauna. It is ideally formulated to stimulate microfauna production. We recommend 2 ml of Microfauna Booster, twice a week, per 200 litres.

Use:

  • - starting a new aquarium;
  • - moving into a larger volume of tank;
  • - changing the decorative stones use;
  • - recovering after the disappearance of microfauna;
  • - installing a refugium;
  • - the desire to expand and diversify your microfauna.

Our latest research has highlighted the possibility that keepers could stop feeding using granules or cubes of frozen feed, and feed by stimulating primary production of microfauna alone.

In nature, as in a reef aquarium, some microfauna gets trapped by corals at night, when it rises back to the surface.

You can recreate this age-old natural cycle in your aquarium by buying our live microfauna together with the Microfauna Booster feed.
